The problem is the time latency in the actual communication. Unlike land lines, cell phones generally add about 1 to 3 tenths of a second of latency (delay between when you say and they hear, and vice versa). If you are both on cell phones then double this. Well if you use the Ooma Bluetooth you can add another half a second or so to that. It was literally bad enough that I decided to just unplug the device and call it money lost for the lesson. Pairing my Verizon Droid 2 Global was flawless.Unlike others, I have had no problem with latency or quality on incoming calls from my cell phone thus far. The latency problem others face could be an interference issue. Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz band. The same band that many cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless cameras, WiFi B & G routers (which are often next to the Ooma), Microwave ovens and many other devices operate in. It is a very crowded frequency. I have Panasonic and a one Ooma phone that are all "DECT 6" phones. DECT 6 operates in the 1920 MHz-1930 MHz band in the US and Canada. My WiFi in 'N' only at 5 GHz. I rarely microwave and it's a new unit anyway. Moving WiFi and other devices that work on the 2.4 GHz band far from the Ooma and your cell phone right next to it may help. There is a significant delay in voices reaching to and from the headset, so you'll step on the conversation if you assume you're talking in real time. 2. It doesn't work with conference calls. I work from home and spent 90% of my phone calls on conference numbers. The way you attach to the bluetooth headset does not allow for dialing conference codes with PIN numbers. This is a HUGE oversight. So, while it sounds great on paper. It's not very useful. I would think that a regular handset with a bluetooth adapter is a much better investment. |
