I purchased the device from Amazon and received it quickly. However, when trying to port my phone number, I ended up getting stuck on a web page that simply would not accept my email address (even though it was perfectly valid). I ended up spending almost an hour on the phone with netTalk, getting transferred from one person to the next (4 in all), none of whom could help me and all of whom made me repeat the same sequence of steps despite the fact that I kept telling them that I had already done them. The call quality was absolutely horrible. I could not understand the agents, and the delay was probably a half second so we were continually talking over each other...that's a pretty poor showing for a phone company. I finally managed to get somebody who said they were... Last month I cam scary close to going over my 450 min a month gap on my sprint phone so I finally bought one. Went to Target and got it on sale for $60 with a years service. We followed the instructions and registered for an account on their website but they didnt have our area code for some reason (513)so we decided to use a nearby KY area code since it was familiar (859). That was my first gripe since anyone I call is instantly confused as to why I am calling from another state. We have a very fast internet connection with time warner, 21mbps which is plenty fast for everything we do. We also use a hacked likseys DD-DWRT router which is overclocked and plays nice with everything hooked up to it. Because of this and its port forwarding ability I plugged the nettalk directly into the router via the supplied cat-5 cable. It blinked orange for about 30 seconds and then went to blinking red (uh... As a decades experienced software and network engineer, I am amazed at how bad this product seems to be.Mine was never able to work more than an hour on my home LAN. There's nothing special about my LAN - it's just a standard cable router - but this thing just wouldn't work. Skype and Vonage work just fine on it! I spent about 3 hours on hold for tech support on two separate calls. The tech support guys (tier II) fiddled around with my router and with the device (remote access to my PC, shudder), to no avail. Power the device up, it works, and a while later it doesn't. BTW, the tech support people were sub-standard. Nice folks, but they don't understand networking. "ARP" is a foreign word to them, for example. "DHCP" is something they know how to configure, but it's clear they don't know what it means. And, technical support hours are a joke - they shut down at 2PM west coast time on weekdays, worse on weekends. Also,... Read more |
